After years of trailers, leaks and delays, the biggest game of the decade is only weeks away.

Few games have been waited on like Grand Theft Auto VI. Fans have spent years dissecting every frame of two trailers, arguing over leaks and refreshing news sites for any scrap of information. Now the wait is nearly over. Rockstar Games has locked in a launch date of November 19, 2026, and the countdown has officially begun.

Here is everything you need to know before you return to Vice City.

The Long Road to Launch

The journey to this release date has been anything but smooth. The first trailer pointed to a 2025 launch. The second trailer then named May 26, 2026 as the date. In November 2025, Rockstar announced a further delay to November 19, 2026. Take-Two’s CEO has since said the company is sticking to that date with no more delays planned.

The confidence has had a ripple effect across the industry. Once Rockstar picked its date, many other publishers reportedly cleared their November schedules to avoid going head to head with GTA 6.

Welcome to Leonida

GTA 6 is set in the fictional state of Leonida, Rockstar’s take on Florida, with a modern spin on Vice City at its heart. Players follow two protagonists, Jason and Lucia, who become entangled in a sprawling criminal conspiracy. Rockstar has described it as the biggest world the series has ever built.

So far the public has only seen two trailers, and neither showed unfiltered gameplay. That means the game itself still holds plenty of surprises.

How Much Does GTA VI Cost?

Rockstar has confirmed two editions at launch. The Standard Edition costs $79.99, which is $10 more than the $69.99 price that has become common for major releases. The Ultimate Edition costs $99.99 and adds bonuses such as premium vehicles, exclusive weapons and special apparel.

The price is high, but it came in below some of the wilder predictions that had the standard edition reaching $100.

Pre-Orders, Preload and Physical Copies

Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026. Anyone who pre-orders digitally can preload the game starting November 12, a full week before launch, so they can start playing the moment the game unlocks. Digital pre-orders also come with one month of GTA+, Rockstar’s subscription service.

There is one surprise for collectors: Rockstar has confirmed that physical editions will not include a game disc. Instead, the box contains a download code. Note also that the editions do not include early access, so everyone starts on November 19.

What About GTA Online and PC?

Rockstar has confirmed a single-player experience at launch but has shared no details about a new version of GTA Online. PC players will also have to wait, because only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are confirmed for now. Rumors point to a PC release later, but nothing has been announced.

Is GTA VI Worth the Hype?

Expectations could hardly be higher. The game has to live up to years of waiting, a premium price tag and a legacy built by one of the best-selling franchises in entertainment. Until reviews and gameplay arrive, the verdict is open. But the signs are strong: a confirmed date, a massive new setting and a fanbase that has never been more excited.

Final Thoughts

GTA 6 is shaping up to be more than a game launch. It is a cultural event. Whether you are a longtime fan or just curious about all the noise, mark November 19 on your calendar and get ready.
